We left the city behind for a morning out at an apple orchard known for growing the biggest, juiciest apples around. We are doing our best to explore Apple Valley, as it's known in Rhode Island, by visiting a different orchard each year. This year we picked Cortlands and Macintosh apples and Rhode Island Sweeting. Yummy!
The growers at Steere Orchard thin the branches on their trees in order to produce the largest possible apples. This practice reportedly results in fewer apples to harvest, but we couldn't tell. The trees were covered!
